Powder Coating Verses Paint Durability

At Electro Tech Coatings, we love to see our client’s items transform in ways that totally surpass expectations. However, many people miss out on the utility of powder coating because they don’t understand what it is or the ways in which it can be used. This finishing process is superior to paint, and well worth the investment. Would you like to know more about powder coating? Here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive from new clients:

  • What is powder coating? Powder coating is a process of applying a decorative and protective finish to a variety of materials. A dry mixture of resins, fillers, and pigments are applied electrostatically to metal objects. Then, the object is heated so that the power melts and fuses together into a “skin” on the exterior of the object.
  • What can be powder coated? Any object that can hold an electrostatic charge and withstand the heat of the curing process can be powder coated. Popular items include bicycle frames, vehicle parts, outdoor furniture, metal fencing, industrial fabrications, and more.
  • Why is powder coating better than painting? Powder coating is more environmentally friendly than traditional paint because it has no solvents or VOCs. Additionally, powder coating is one of the most durable and long-lasting finishes available.
  • What colors are available? Virtually any color you desire can be created for your project, and you can also get custom finishes or special effects like glitter or antiquing. The customization options are endless.

With so many benefits of powder coating, this process offers an ideal finish that will last for many years. The team at Electro Tech enjoys introducing new clients to the powder coating process, as well as the many ways that it can revolutionize the way they look at custom finishes.
